Description of Organization:

KickRocs.com is a daily pop-culture mixsite—powered by hip-hop—focused on covering entertainment, music, fashion, sports and more. This site, founded and operated in Richmond, Virginia, has aimed to produce newsworthy content for like-minded readers. In an age of instant access and rapid global communication, KickRocs.com fuses a variety of topics relevant to hip-hop culture with a distinct delivery that many appreciate.

We are currently looking for interns to become a part of our movement in the world of hip-pop-culture.  Influencers, Content Creators, Social Media Gurus and Bloggers in the areas of pop-culture entertainment news, current events, hip-hop music & lifestyle, fashion, sneakers and more are desired. (Position descriptions below)

Intern Responsibilities:

  • Collecting relevant story topics
    • Researching (fact finding) to ensure the legitimacy of article content.
    • Writing and posting articles in an original urban, yet objective voice.
    • Interns will be expected to write website articles on a consistent basis (to be explained during initial meeting with site owner).
  • Assist in preparing promotional material for major events.
  • Attend and cover important events relevant to KickRocs’ scope of hip-pop-culture interests and target demographic.
  • Promote website and website promotions via social media outlets.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled (or graduated within one academic year) in a degree seeking college program.
  • Excellent knowledge in desired interest area (entertainment, hip-hop, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of WordPress and/or other blogging platforms.
  • Candidates should be consistent, reliable, and pay very close attention to detail.
  • Candidate must have strong writing and grammar skills.
  • Must be a self-starter, motivated and driven.
  • Must be able to work on deadline.
  • Ability to work alone as well as part of a team.

This internship is offered year round on a semester to semester basis. Hours are flexible and will be determined after initial meeting with site owner.

This is an unpaid internship available to current (and recently graduated) college students.  Students may receive academic credit only if approved by their academic program.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS:

Blogger internship

Core responsibilities

  • Work with mixsite owner, senior staff and other writers daily to conceptualize and execute stories (Pop Culture & Entertainment News, Current Events, Hip-Hop Music & Lifestyle, Fashion, Sneakers, Sports, Politics)
  • Writing feature stories for mixsite categories, ensuring the voice, tone and mix of content fits with the overall culture of KickRocs.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings (conference call) and participate in story/content pitches.
  • Identify and attend industry functions to obtain interviews as well as networking to establish reliable industry contacts.
  • Must have a true love of desired area of interest.
  • Must be enrolled in college studying in Mass Communications or other major related to area of interest.
  • Must be available to blog minimum of 5 days a week—at a rapid pace.

Hours:

Approximately 10-20 hours per week, ideally spread out over five days. The intern will be required post multiple times a day. The position lasts one semester, after which time there may be an opportunity for renewal.

Social Media Guru internship

Core responsibilities

  • Knowledge and use of social media platforms (primarily Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram).
  • Day-to-day management and execution of social media campaigns.
  • Monitor and measure the growth of the community and analyze and report on effectiveness of new initiatives.
  • Collect, monitor and distribute social media metrics on a weekly basis.
  • Review and edit web content posted in various categories to highlight, tag, and link for maximum visibility.
  • Ensure the voice, tone and mix of all social media efforts fits with the overall KickRocs way of life.
  • Must have a true love of all things social media.
  • Must be enrolled in college studying in Mass Communications, Marketing and/or have demonstrated expertise of social media management.

Hours:

Approximately 10-20 hours per week, ideally spread out over five days. The intern will be required to Tweet and post to Instagram multiple times a day. The position lasts one semester, after which time there may be an opportunity for renewal.
