Fall 2016: Action Alliance - Development, Communications & Policy Intern (PAID -- Deadline Sept. 1)

The Development, Communications, and Policy Team is recruiting for a Development/Communications Intern with an interest in Policy. This internship will provide opportunities for exploration of grassroots fundraising and membership raising, development and communications campaigns and policy development, sexual violence, intimate partner violence, trauma-informed advocacy, and racial justice organizing with a focus on the building of memberships, fund development and communications. Responsibilities will include research, writing, managing deadlines, and working as part of a team. The selected intern will also provide project support to the Development Director, the Communications Director and the Policy Director and the Action Alliance in general.

 

Responsibilities

  • Development: Work with Development Director to provide support to the Development division. Duties include • Preparing development and fundraising campaigns  • Researching fund development resources  • Participating on development planning committees  • Assist in the planning and implementation of special events/fundraisers • Assist in the creation of donor acknowledgements and solicitation  • Assist in the recording of donor gifts and information  • Conduct special donation requests under the direction of the Development Director • and Engaging in supportive tasks for fund development such as attending trainings and conferences
  • Communications:  Assist the Communication Director with managing and promoting The Red Flag Campaign, a bystander intervention campaign for college students. This may include conducting marketing activities, drafting social media posts, and other tasks.
  • Policy:  Assisting the Policy Director in planning for and implementing the Action Alliance's policy initiatives, including researching relevant policy issues to inform policy initiatives, developing materials and talking points on policy issues, providing staff support to policy work groups, and developing a training on state and federal legislative processes and grassroots advocacy. Background and interest in sexual and intimate partner violence, policy, and social justice is preferred.
  • Personal Development Project: Intern will coordinate with Development Director to identify an area of interest to the intern that involves a communications campaign with a development focus.

 

Schedule and travel requirements: Internships are generally scheduled for 8-12 hours per week and last for one academic year plus summer break. Schedules will be set in coordination with supervisor and will be posted on agency internal calendar. Some statewide travel might occur and will be approved in advance by supervisor.

 Qualifications: Internships are available to currently enrolled students or those that graduated within the last 12 months. This internship would be beneficial to individuals studying nonprofit development, communications, marketing, with some understanding of social justice, gender studies, or sociology or for those interested in a career in the sexual and domestic violence field. Applicants with strong technical skills preferred.

 Salary rates: Interns receive a stipend of $10/hour. Time will be tracked using an agency timesheet and supervisor(s) will approve hours logged.
