Brittany Taylor (M.S. ‘17/MC) was named winner of the graduate strategic public relations Faculty Award for Fall 2017 for the VCU Richard T. Robertson School of Media and Culture at the commencement ceremony Dec. 8 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.
Faculty vote on the awards for graduating students in each of the School’s five undergraduate and two graduate academic programs. The award is for those who “best exemplify the standards” of the School, such as academic achievement, personal determination and helping others.
Taylor graduated with a masters of science in mass communications, concentrating in strategic public relations. She works as an alumni relations and stewardship specialist in the VCU School of Nursing, a job she held during the 14-month, weekend program.
“My job is awesome because I am able to connect our alumni back to the School [of Nursing] and thank them for their support of nursing education,” Taylor said.
She said that Marjorie Grier, an adjunct faculty member, was the first and last instructor she had in the program--and that Grier left a lasting impression.
“Her knowledge of the field was inspiring and she genuinely cared about our education and careers. She went above and beyond every class to make sure the content was engaging, and that the class was realistic to today's workplace expectations,” Taylor said.
Grier began teaching in the School’s graduate strategic public relations program in summer 2014. She holds Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) by the Public Relations Society of America.
“Brittany is smart, competitive and hard working. She also is committed to helping her team succeed and readily steps forward when something needs to be done,” Grier said.
Taylor is originally from Orlando, Fla. and graduated with a bachelor's degree in public relations from the Zimmerman School of Advertising and Mass Communications at the University of South Florida in Tampa in 2014.
She met her fiancé, Keval Outar, at USF while he was studying electrical engineering. They are currently planning a wedding at Disney World for March 2018.
