The Robertson School co-sponsored again a visit to VCU from an Eastern Europe delegation of government officials. The delegation this year under the Open World program was made up of local and regional officials from Kazakhstan. The seven delegates were in Richmond for eight days, during which they met with government officials and public interest groups, including the Virginia Public Access Project, the Virginia Freedom of Information Advisory Council, and the office of Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney.
The visitors were treated to tours of CBS 6, Jamestown, Williamsburg and Monticello. Associate Professor Bill Oglesby represented the Robertson School in hosting the delegation along with VCU's Global Education Office. The Kazakhstan officials spoke glowingly about the friendships and understanding they gained through their visit to VCU and Richmond.
The Open World program was formed in 1999 through the U.S. Congress to bring emerging leaders from Eurasia to the United States to interact with their U.S. counterparts.
