The Robertson School is offering two special topics classes in Summer 2019: Media and Culture Tour of Vietnam and History of Documentary. Below are the details for both classes.

MASC 491-C01 and MASC 691-C02: Media and Culture Tour of Vietnam, Study Abroad (listed under "Topics in Communications")
3 credits
Instructor: Joshua Smith
CRN 38525 and 38527

The application deadline for this program is Feb. 15, 2019

This study-abroad will be an immersive learning experience for students interested in media and culture as it relates specifically to the Da Nang province of Vietnam. The class is designed to show students both the marketing and consumer side of media and culture with a focus on the media landscape. To help build better communication practices on the marketing side, students will explore the city of Da Nang and meet with communication professionals who operate Vietnamese media businesses. This will require a comprehension of communication practice in Vietnam. This will also require pre-research of the country, province, law, local sites, reading of comments on shared media, observing ratings and reviews and documenting and sharing their experiences in the style of a blogger, vlogger, podcaster, and/or influencer. Students will be responsible for planning, creating and communicating their experiences through shareable media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Wordpress, etc. Additionally, students will prepare and submit a communication audit highlighting their findings in a way that can be used to help the city of Da Nang better communicate.
