Robertson School announces Spring 2017 Special Topics classes

Here's a list of the Special Topics classes for spring 2017. These are classes that cover a topic not currently covered in a current class.

Make sure to see how to register for the course: for some you can register on your own, but others require that you request an override online from a Robertson School advisor.

MASC 291-001
Life
Meets TR 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm, Temple Building 1165
Instructor: Scott Sherman

Life's purpose is to help students learn a process of systemic inspiration for business minds and artist alike. The course design and name follows an experiential product offered by Andy Stefanovich (a large player in the field of business creativity). His team offers it to businesses, organizations, and people with a lot of money. This course will:
- provoke thinking about the role of inspiration in growth and change,
- offer a chance to practice rituals to enable inspiration on a daily basis.
- require participation in a series of social experiences designed to demonstrate the attributes of an inspired work life.

Public Speaking for Mass Communications
Meets TR 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm, Temple Building 2221A

The purpose of this course is to help students overcome a fear of public speaking and/or to become expert public speakers. This is an especially important skill to have for mass communication majors, and students from any major. Students will become comfortable with their own voice, learn how to select appropriate and engaging topics, organize speeches and connect with an audience. This course will give students the experience of writing and presenting speeches.

In Design Concepts students will gain introductory skills of creative visual problem solving as it pertains to design such as: conceptual thinking, building harmonious systems, using the typographic grid and understanding the relationship between type and image.

The thinking and skills for content strategy and content creation. Content marketing is the planning, creating and online sharing of valuable free communications to attract and engage consumers. In short, this course is focused on the online branded stuff that we enjoy daily on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, etc.

TV News Production

Instruction and practice in basic television and studio production. Supports the production of television broadcast journalism programming by broadcast journalism students and explores standards, contemporary technologies and best practices techniques for modern studio video production.
