Robertson School alumna Saffeya Ahmed has been honored as a finalist for MOEy Best in Show, the top national student journalism award of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). The best in show award of the annual SPJ Mark of Excellence competition was chosen from more than 3,100 entries. Last month, Ahmed had already been honored with the top award in the data visualization category.
Ahmed was honored for her story "White supremacy movements spark rise in religion-based hate," which she had produced in the School's Capital News Service capstone course with Professors Jeff South, Alix Bryan and Brandon Shulleeta in Spring 2019. She graduated from VCU in May 2019 with dual degrees in mass communications (digital journalism) and political science. She is now a researcher at CNN in Atlanta.
