In partnership with the VCU Office of Continuing and Professional Education (OCPE), the Robertson School of Media and Culture will be offering a new online, self-paced course on Digital Media Strategies for the COVID-19 Crisis. The course will run from March 30 to May 8, 2020 and will be taught by our own Dr. Jeanine Guidry, director of the Robertson School's Media+Health Lab and a nationally recognized researcher and educator on digital health communications.

This asynchronous online course (self-paced with the option to view live or recorded content) will be open for VCU students and VCU and VCU Health employees for three academic credits (MASC 492-004), as well as in a noncredit format (for $195) for the general community with registration through the VCU Office of Continuing and Professional Education. This may include those working in the healthcare, communications, higher education, or related professions.

Half of the revenue generated from this course through the non-credit option offered through OCPE will be dedicated to Coronavirus-related research by our Media+Health Lab, and the other half will be used to fund student needs during the crisis.

This online course will explore digital media strategies relating to COVID-19 and will allow students an opportunity to develop digital content for nonprofit messaging and campaigns.

The class will further address the following issues:
  • Concepts of successful digital campaigns
  • Online audience outreach through social media
  • Digital media analytics
  • Misinformation identification and targeting
  • Development of digital health campaigns in response to the COVID-19 crisis
Note, eligible VCU and VCU Health employees will be able to use their tuition benefit/education assistance for this course.
