New Faculty Spotlight: Yi Grace Ji, public relations

Yi Grace Ji, Ph.D., is one of the newest professors in the School's public relations sequence. She will begin teaching courses this fall as an assistant professor.
Where are you from and where did you work, or study, previously?
I am from Hangzhou, China—the most beautiful and innovative city in China. I earned my master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Miami and worked as a research assistant and lecturer there. Before that I worked with Ronal McDonald House Charities, South Florida, Jennifer Jones & Partners and JARWIRE Group and Hong Kong Wenweipo Newspaper. I went to Hangzhou Normal University in my hometown for undergraduate studies.
What is your teaching philosophy? What classes will you be teaching this upcoming semester?
My teaching style and philosophy are students-centered and can be summarized in five aspects: trigger interest in proactive learning, build confidence to tackle challenges, encourage critical thinking, and foster practical application skills.
I’ll be teaching MASC 425, Public Relations Research.
What is your research focus?
My research focuses on social media based stakeholder engagement, big data application in public relations research and practice, stakeholder decision-making, and measurement and evaluation.
What hobbies and interests do you have outside of the classroom?
I am a foodie, a food adventurer. I like travel and doing water actives. Love spending time with my family and my cat, Fudge.
What are you looking forward to about living in Richmond?
Experiencing spring, fall, and winter after being in Miami for almost six years.
