Dr. Marcus Messner named Eminent Scholar

Dean Montserrat Fuentes named Dr. Marcus Messner as one of the inaugural Eminent Scholars of the College of Humanities and Sciences.

Robertson School Associate Director Dr. Marcus Messner was named an Eminent Scholar by VCU's College of Humanities and Sciences last week. Messner, who is an associate professor in the journalism sequence, is one of three faculty members who received this inaugural award. 

"This title is designed to recognize and reward our outstanding faculty for their scholarly contributions in their discipline, the College, and the University," said Dr. Montserrat Fuentes, dean of the College of Humanities and Sciences. Dr. Robin Everhart, associate professor in the Department of Psychology, and Dr. Jason Reed, associate professor in the Department of Physics, also received the recognition. 

Robertson School Director Dr. Hong Cheng nominated Dr. Marcus Messner for the Eminent Scholar Award.

"As a nationally and internationally renowned social media scholar and educator with enormous achievements over the years, Dr. Messner richly deserves this special honor," said Robertson School Director Dr. Hong Cheng, who nominated Messner. The recipients were selected by a committee consisting of members of the College‚Äôs Research Advisory Council.

"I feel very honored and humbled by this award," said Messner. "VCU is such a great place to work that has always supported my endeavors in research and teaching. Thanks to all of my great research collaborators and to my wonderful colleagues in the Robertson School for all of their support."
