The Richmond First Club presented its 2019 Good Government Award to the Robertson School's Capital News Service program at a ceremony Tuesday night. The 100-year-old civic organization recognized CNS as "journalists covering Virginia politics with integrity and energy for over 20 years."

CNS was represented at the ceremony at the Branch Museum of Architecture and Design by associate professor Jeff South, who directs the program, and four members of this year's staff -- Daniel Berti, Kaytlin Nickens, Maryum Elnasseh and Georgia Geen. They accepted the award "on behalf of the rising generation of journalists whose work is so crucial to democracy."

CNS is a student-run wire covering state government and other news. The service distributes stories to more than 100 news outlets statewide and feeds select stories to The Associated Press. Journalism instructor Alix Bryan and adjunct professor Brandon Shulleeta have been co-teaching CNS with South during the spring semester.
