Spring 2024: VCU Tech Transfer and Ventures Office - Marketing Intern

Position Overview 

The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Tech Transfer and Ventures Office is seeking a dynamic  and self-motivated Marketing Intern to join our team on a part-time basis. This position is perfect for  graduate and undergraduate students who are enthusiastic about working at the intersection of science  and business. As a Marketing Intern, you will play a vital role in promoting VCU's innovative  technologies, fostering partnerships with external companies, and contributing to the university's  mission of knowledge dissemination and industry collaboration. 

  • Schedule: 10-20 hours per week with flexibility based on the applicants needs
  • Department: Technology Transfer and Ventures  
  • Supervisor: Brent Fagg, Senior Licensing Manager  


Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate program at Virginia Commonwealth University.

  • Strong interest in science, innovation, and marketing.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage and organize information accurately.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Technology Marketing: 
  • Collaborate with the Tech Transfer team to create marketing materials highlighting technologies available for licensing. 
  • Assist in drafting compelling descriptions and overviews of technologies to be posted on innovation marketplaces and the VCU Tech Transfer website. 
  • Coordinate with inventors to gather information about the technology and its potential  applications. 
  • Utilize various communication channels to promote VCU technologies and attract potential  partners. 
  1. Innovation Marketplaces:
  • Manage the posting of technologies on innovation marketplaces and online platforms dedicated to technology transfer. 
  • Regularly update and maintain the accuracy of technology listings, ensuring all information is up-to-date. 
  • Monitor inquiries and responses from interested parties and direct them to the appropriate Tech Transfer personnel. 
  1. Company Needs Tracking: 
  • Monitor and compile technology needs posted by external companies and organizations seeking innovative solutions. 
  • Maintain a database of technology needs and explore potential matches with VCU technologies. 
  1. Data Management: 
  • Maintain organized records of marketing efforts, technology listings, and engagement metrics.
  • Provide regular reports to the Tech Transfer team on the performance of marketing campaigns and technology listings. 
  1. Collaboration and Support: 
  • Collaborate with other team members to brainstorm and implement creative marketing strategies. 
  • Provide general administrative support to the Tech Transfer Office as needed.
