Spring 2024: VCU Libraries - Photographer/Videographer (PAID)


VCU Libraries seeks a videographer/photographer skilled at visual storytelling to join VCU Libraries public relations office.

This position can be tailored as an internship for class credit.

Assignments will vary widely and will include still photography and video for social media, news stories as well as producing and editing videos. Responsibilities will include regular postings for Instagram and for creating fresh images for social media platforms and for use on the libraries website.

Based in James Branch Cabell Library, this 8 to 10-hour per week position assists in publicizing events, services and priorities of VCU Libraries. The successful candidate will bring a fresh eye to VCU Libraries and will be encouraged to develop his/her/their own ideas for storytelling. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities and/or Competencies required to successfully perform the work: 

  • A good eye
  • Comfortable interviewing for stories
  • Ability to shoot and edit publishable video and still photography
  • Ability to independently manage work
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work alone as well as on a team
  • Availability to work some flexible hours
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign

Preferred skills:

  • Strong writing ability
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style
  • Interest in creating engaging content for social media

Pay rate $11 hourly
